The Design Process

01. Book Your Spot

We’ll get to know you, your brand and creative vision. In particular, what makes your brand unique! Once we decide we’re a great match, we’ll send you a design proposal and contract for you to sign off on as well as an invoice for a non- refundable 50% deposit required to secure your project time slot in our calendar.

02. Research & Art Direction

We’ll send you a brief submission form to be completed before the project start date. You’ll provide us with details on your brand goals, and print design vision as well as some technical specifications from your manufacturer. You’ll send through some reference images or a Pinterest board. We’ll use this as the project brief and will perform further design and trend research, clarifying your art direction with a mood board if appropriate. It’s really important that we’re on the same page with art direction as this will be the foundation to our initial concept in the next stage.

03. Initial Concept

Now for the exciting part! We’ll create original hand drawn and/or digital illustrations and motifs based on your approved art direction. We’ll present the initial concept to you to ensure we’re heading in the right direction. You’ll provide us with feedback on the elements and motifs presented with 2 business days to respond.

04. Develop Repeat or Placement Print Layout

Depending on your brief, we’ll start to bring your design to life by creating a repeat pattern or placement print layout with the approved initial concept. We may use product mock ups to help us visualise scale and ask you to print out a section of the design at 100% to make sure you’re happy with how the scale is going to print in production.

05. Final Artwork & Delivery

Now that your print design is approved, we’ll go ahead and set up your artwork for screen or digital printing. We may pick Pantone colours or create colour separations if required. We’ll require you to make the final payment before sending out your print ready artwork via dropbox. We’ll both celebrate and get excited about your big launch!

+ Should I opt for screen or digital printing? What is the difference?

We love this questions! But the answer isn’t so black and white. We have written a full blog post on this topic so you can learn about the difference and can make an informed decision before we get started. Let us know If you have any questions!

+ What do I need to prepare for the project?

You need to have a solid understanding of your business goals, target audience and creative direction for your brand. If you don’t yet have any branding in place for your label we suggest you engage in a branding project with us first. You need to have some visual references or a Pinterest board to help us understand your desired aesthetic for your print design.

+ Do I need to have found a manufacturer before we start a textile design project? Can you help me find a contact?

Ideally, yes as we will need to know some technical specifications from your printer such as their printing method (screen or digital printing), file formats and colour codes they require. We can pass on some contacts for manufacturers, but please note we focus on the creative side of things and cannot provide sourcing services

+ How does pricing work for a custom textile design?

You'll need to provide us with reference images or samples so that we can give you a custom quote. Our prices are based on the amount of detail and motifs that will go into creating your artwork. To give you an idea, a basic print design can be anywhere from $300, to $800 for a hero print design.

+ Is my custom textile design exclusive to my brand?

Yes! Final artworks are exclusive to you and your brand.

+ What’s your turn around time?

This can vary based on the scope of work. Some basic prints can be done within 5 - 10 days, larger projects involving hero prints, can take around 3-4 weeks to complete. We will usually agree on a deadline at the initial briefing stage.

+ Do you only create prints for fashion?

Nope! We are open to creating prints for a variety of mediums and products, including homewares, linen & bedding, stationery, packaging and accessories.
